Nemrut Dağ or Mount Nemrut, was built in the Hellenistic period when kingdoms were formed in Eastern provinces, after Alexander the Great’s empire was collapsing. This striking location was the house and tomb of the gods, built by the Hellenistic King Antiochos I of Commagene (69-34 B.C.) as a monument to himself. The Hierotheseion of Antiochos I is one of the most ambitious creations of that period.
