Welcome to Istanbul

Welcome to Istanbul, where you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Tonight, meet your guide and the rest of your group.

Friday 19th April

Ankara, Cappadocia

After breakfast, drive to the nation’s capital, Ankara, visit the Mausoleum of Turkey’s first President, Ataturk and learn a little about why he is so revered in this country. With Ankara behind us, we head for the surreal, lunar-like landscape of Cappadocia.

Day 3
Saturday 20th April

Goreme, Underground city

Today we tour the Goreme open-air museum, Pasabag, Uchisar castle and one of the area’s fascinating underground towns, home to early Christians who hid underground from Roman persecution. Photo opportunities are everywhere so have your cameras ready! Tonight, don’t miss the free Turkish folk dance evening featuring folk and belly dancers… A night you won’t forget!

Sunday 21th April

Konya, Caravansary

Leaving Cappadocia, we head west along the old Silk Road for the stunning Aegean Coast. We take time out along the way to visit Sultanhani Caravansary and the Mevlana Whirling Dervish Museum in Konya.

Day 5
Monday 22th April

Pamukkale, Hierapolis

This morning we will visit the magnificent white calcium terraces, known as the Travertines, in Pamukkale where we also tour the ancient city of Hierapolis. Take a dip, amongst old columns, in the hot springs that u in Roman times for their therapeutic powers. Then head for Kusadasi where will enjoy a display of locally handcrafted leather goods.

Day 6
Tuesday 23th April

Ephesus

Absorb yourself in history today with a guided tour of Ephesus and a visit to the site of the Temple of Artemis. Feel the mystical atmosphere of the ancient city and theatre. Carpet weaving has long traditions in Turkey, and at a carpet village, we learn how carpets make by hand and what determines their value.

Day 7
Wednesday 24th April

Pergamum and Troy

Today we step back in time as we visit to tour the magnificent acropolis of Pergamum. Its impressive temples and library made Pergamum a renowned cultural and political centre in its time. Later in the day, we tour Homer’s famous Troy, home of the famed Trojan Horse. We then cross the Dardanelles and enjoy a BBQ dinner. The remainder of the evening is free until we head to the Dawn Service site as soon as it opens to the public. Here we will spend the night in nervous anticipation of the Dawn Service at 5:30 a.m.

Day 8
Thursday 25th April

ANZAC Day at Gallipoli

Awake before sunrise for the ANZAC Day Dawn Service. We become aware of the almost deafening silence as the moving service to commemorate our fallen forefathers on this particular day begins. You will then have the chance to attend the Australian or New Zealand Memorial service before a late afternoon drive back to Istanbul.

Friday 26th April

Istanbul Old city

After breakfast, you enjoy a fully guided tour of the only city to span two continents, visiting the Blue Mosque, St. Sophia Museum, Topkapi Palace, the Hippodrome and the Grand Bazaar. Tonight doesn’t miss the free Turkish Folklore evening.

Saturday 27th April

Istanbul

After breakfast, our tour concludes, and we say goodbye to our new friends.
